Theory: Mental Health Screening Saves Lives…

In a post on a quickly expanding Yahoo Group named “Atypical_Antipsychotics*” one group member writes:

“According to NAMI*, mental health screening (such as Teen Screen) saves lives by identifying suicidal youths. I have seen no facts or evidence to back this up.

Here are some facts:

1. Mental health screening leads to labels (one study apparently had an 83% positive rate on the teen screen). (People who are not screened/tested/evaluated are not labeled).

2. Labels often lead to psychiatric drugs. (If you are not labeled you are not drugged. If you are labeled, drugging is not unlikley).

3. Labels can lead to unemployment (discrimination still exists despite the promise of equality promoted in the ADA).

4. Psychiatric drugs have been associated with increased risk of suicide, homicide, rampage mass murder, childhood drownings, psychosis, severe paranoia, extreme insomnia and severe withdrawal symptoms.

Conclusion: Mental health screening may be hazardous to your health / your child’s health.

Thank you, LCA, for your permission to duplicate your post.

*Atypical_Antipsychotics is a Yahoo Group. (See their profile at the bottom of this article.)

**NAMI is the largest lay group in the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill. The media routinely refer to NAMI as advocates for the mentally ill, although its membership consists almost entirely of family members and not the mentally ill themselves. NAMI ascribes to the “biological basis of mental illness, “and endorses forced treatment of the mentally ill.

Yahoo Group: Atypical_Antipsychotics, “This newsgroup was originally created to discuss the prescription epidemic of atypical antipsychotics drugs – Abilify, Geodon, Risperdal, Seroquel and Zyprexa. However, a poll of this group indicated that 84% would like to expand discussion to “The entire Psychiatric Mental System including Antipsychotic Drugs, other drugs and other harmful psychiatric practices.”

Discussion was expanded therefore on June 3, 2008.

There is a movement against the psychiatric pharmaceuetical industrial complex; and this forum was created to contribute to that. No attempt will be made here to candy coat the issue of mass drugging in the U.S. society, etc.

The information provided on this newsgroup is intended for reporters looking for cases and story ideas, prosecutors looking for experts, Attorneys General looking for facts and documentation, families looking for information, whistleblowers and activists looking for the strength, friendship and coordination found in allying with like-minded groups and individuals.

We are a grass roots group whose lives have been altered, who study, research, exchange information and educate.

You’re welcome to join and just observe the news or provide it!

  1. Amy Philo Says:

Just writing to ask for everyone to call and fax the senate in protest of The MOTHERS Act. Don’t think for a second that the pharmaceutical lobby is not having all of their buddies calling and faxing as well, God knows what lengths they will go to to profit off of the suffering and deaths of others. If you go to I have posted a fax and a list of numbers you can use. The fax is at:

The list of numbers for the senate is at:

And there is a lot of relevant data in the addendum to my letter to the Senate at:

    Thanks for your help

Now please go online and do some google searches for the Reid omnibus package or the coburn omnibus, and go share those links with others and persuade them not to support the omnibus but to advocate for its rejection so that the individual bills can be considered on their own.

  2. Your Friend Says:

Thanks again, Amy. Yes! The bill did not pass! We’ll continue to fight against it and ensure that our new mothers and their unborn and newborns are not drugged.

For those who do not understand what the Reid Omnibus Package was: The Reid Omnibus consisted of 398 pages and contained approximately 35 various bills. What better way to hide a bill that you want passed?

Keep us posted in the future, please.
